Claremont Park Community Centre is a former branch library in Blackpool, North West England.
Built in the 1920’s it was officially opened on 2nd October 1929 by Councillor W.D.Halstead JP and was one of the first branch libraries in the town.
Re-opened as a Community Centre on 26th November 2004 by the local Ward Councillors Ivan and Sylvia Taylor, it now attracts over 2,000 people every month who take part in a variety of activities, events and projects including arts and crafts, martial arts, youth clubs, community arts projects, Over 60’s clubs, childcare, dance and drama and photography.
The Centre also hosts training events run by the local authority, NHS Blackpool, Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde CVS and a number of other statutory agencies as well as special partnership events with the fire brigarde, police authority and the Local Neighbourhood Partnership.
The Centre is run by a voluntary Management Committee with support from local residents and neighbours and has good partnerships throughout the community including the local churches, the local primary school and family centre, the local medical centre and other community centres. Ivan and Sylvia Taylor, who opened the Centre in 2004, still sit and are very active on the committee.
